Our enthusiastic members celebrate the following religious festivals with passion and vigour:
Tulsi Vivah, Holi, Paryushan Parv, Janmashtmi, Navratri, Sharad Purnima
Navratri is celebrated with much pomp & splendor on all the 9 days. Shree Madurai Gujarati Samaj takes pride that the Dandiya Rass is still traditionally played here unlike the modern forms it has taken on in metros.
The members invariable make it a point to meet on the Gujarati New Year day ( Sneh Milan ). Visitors / guests present on the day are recognized.
Following National festivals are also celebrated with the same zeal:
1st May – Gujarat Day
15h August – Independence day
26th January – Republic day
Our family members’ present variety of entertainment programs on these occasions to mark their importance.
Sports & Games
Every year, indoor games & outdoor games are organized for members of all ages including Cricket championship.
Mahila Samiti
The women’s wing – Mahila Samiti meet every month and organizes variety of competitions, games, skill development workshops, and general networking. One of the unique programs run earlier by the women’s wing was to tie Rakhi’s to prisoners in the Central Prison, Madurai.
Jaher Seva Samiti( Social Service wing )
This wing organizes different events like Medical cmaps, help to differently abled, School uniforms & notebooks to deserving economically weak students, free spectacles, blood donation camp, etc.
This wing also is in the forefront when natural calamities strike like the earthquake in Latur, Kutch-Gujarat, Cyclone in Orissa, Tsunami in TN and support to Kargil war heroes.
Closer to home, the samaj is involved for all kinds of support for local public during floods ( like in Sellur in 1981) and other unforeseen events.
